Another Recycling Idea: Our neighbor made a small gazebo out of an old satellite dish. It's just large enough to keep the rain off a small table and chairs. I've seen them used for bird baths and planters, too, but the readers of /. (slashdot) offered some Alternative Uses for an Old Satellite Dish that really fascinated me, including parabolic microphones, speakers, and antennas. Here are the links I've archived....
- How-To: Build a WiFi biquad dish antenna
- Amateur Radio Astronomy Project Page and Amateur Radio Telescope Plans. How cool, to have your own personal radio astronomy telescope!
- Constructing a solar cooker from an abandoned satellite dish.
- Lyngsat--C band satellite channels; Free to Air satellite
Very cool ideas!
ReplyDeleteI see discarded satellite dishes lying around in yards here on Capitol Hill all the time.
The solar cooker is the coolest!
Discarded satellite dishes on Capitol hill? I thought they were strictly a rural phenomenon. I wish I were technically minded enough to do these electronic improvisations; I confess I made a little cat gazebo, which Princess enjoyed very much.
